"Strengthening Your Marriage and Station in Life"
Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. Therefore I do not run like someone running aimlessly; I do not fight like a boxer beating the air.
- 1 Corinthians 9:24-27
Training is important for tandem riders to have the strength to climb large hills, fight the headwinds and ride longer distances. But it’s important to do it in a balanced methodical way to achieve the best results.
Jumping into it full throttle can cause injury, yet moving too slowly will not allow growth to occur and you may miss out on opportunities. Therefore we must make a sensible plan to train our weaknesses and leverage our strengths to get to a higher level.
In marriage, the ones who make this same kind of training investment can achieve the same results. They can look back and see where their training has made them better as a couple because the results show the benefits of having done the work.
It sounds so easy to make a plan and get through it successfully, but we also know that in real life, it’s harder than it looks. It is very easy to fall into a reactive lifestyle from a proactive one. But if we sit back and let life happen to us and do nothing about it, that’s what we will get out of it…nothing.
Consider the confidence, security, and peace you could be experiencing if you made a plan, achieved the goal, and now are in a better place. Your life can start to feel as if you are more in control and the idea of change and growth in your marriage is feeling more real.
After a few success stories like this, you can now see that you can live well, rather than just getting by.
Focus on training your marriage to reach higher and farther as a couple!
